SMART/LAB was founded in 2010 with the aim of conducting research for municipal utilities in the areas of energy management, grid integration and electromobility. In the meantime, research is no longer the only mainstay of the company, but the roots are still clearly recognizable. SMART/LAB meets the continuously growing challenges of the market with innovative research approaches in order to keep its finger on the pulse of time with its own products.
Close cooperation with our partners is an important success factor for transferring research results into practice and thus making them usable for our customers and partners. In this way, numerous research projects (Smart Wheels: ladenetz.de, econnect: e-clearing.net) have resulted in successful products that are indispensable in today's world of electromobility.

The project focuses on the demand-oriented installation of charging infrastructure for CEP and care services, cabs, craft enterprises, municipal facilities, university institutes, in parking garages, supermarkets and for other companies whose routes are predominantly in the urban catchment area. For the sustainable and grid-serving installation of the charging infrastructure and the simultaneous reduction of grid barriers, an intelligent grid load management system is also being developed in combination with smart charging columns and backend systems that takes into account both local and higher-level system-relevant utilization, grid bottlenecks and EEG feed-in.
By skillfully integrating electromobility, not only can pollutant emissions be avoided, but also traffic congestion can be reduced. To harness this potential and make electromobility more attractive in inner cities, the project "Electric Mobility Without Frontiers" (EMWF) was launched. The project aims to collect and provide real-time information about parking and energy flow in relation to electromobility. Moreover, it strives to make reliable predictions about future parking situations.
The overall objectives of the project are to further expand and simplify electromobility roaming in Europe, as well as to provide transparent information about charging stations and their prices. This will be achieved through the implementation of an open and independent protocol for data exchange. Several pilot deployments, including those in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and the Netherlands, cover various use cases and support the development of a pan-European market for electromobility services and products.
